Privatization of Czechoslovakian economy in the process of transformation
Števíková, Eva ; Tajovský, Ladislav (advisor) ; Chalupecký, Petr (referee)
The aim of my bachelor thesis is an analysis of the process of privatization in Czechoslovakia, resp. in the Czech Republic, after the fall of the socialist regime in 1989. The transfer of state property to private hands became one of the key aspects of the transformation process and was one of the necessary prerequisites for a functioning free market. In the introduction of my work, I will evaluate certain hypotheses held by the creators and participants at the beginning of the process of privatization as well outline as which options and strategies were considered. I will also try to answer the question of why things proceeded in the manner in which they did. I will attempt to define the risks and pressures that the transfer of such a huge amount of property in such a short time entailed. I will describe the process of denationalization, namely restitution through small and large privatization, while focusing on the progress of voucher privatization, which served as the primary method of large privatization. In my work, I drew from published sources and recent professional literature.
